Devotional: Choose life, Choose God
"Today I have given you the choices...choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants, by loving the Lord your God, by obeying His voice, and by holding closely to Him; for He is your life [your abundant life, your fulfillment] and the length of your days, that you may live in the land which the Lord swore to give to your fathers" Deuteronomy 30
The chapter says to choose life and God is not difficult for me nor is it remote (v11) . "For the thing is very near you—it is in your mouth & in your mind so that you can do it." (v14). When the heart is committed to love God & let Him be center, there is enablement & there is understanding. Verse 17 warns that turning aside & being lured away to worship another will only lead to destruction because true life is only experienced in walking with God.
To love God is actually easy; it is very easy to like & love someone who is likable & lovable. However, it is also difficult at the same time because I am prone to choosing myself always before Him & I tend to lose sight of Him as I go about my days. Today, I pray for resolve to keep Him center in my life.
