Devotional: God, the Right Judge

Reading: Psalm 82
The chapter talks about how God gives judgment among "other faulty judges" As a judge, He is all about justice, fairness. With Him is no partiality, no bias. Vs 5 states true, that man's wisdom is limited, and even superior minds find themselves in the dark.
I'm thankful that my God has full wisdom, understanding, and rightness on each and every matter. Even my own assessments and judgments are flawed, but I can always trust Him to see truly and make the right call on matters.

Devotional: Loving God

Passage: Psalm 81
Marked: 10 I am the Lord your God, Who brought you up out of the land of Egypt. Open your mouth wide and I will fill it. But My people would not hearken to My voice, and Israel WOULD HAVE NONE OF ME.

Some philosophers see God through a stained window. they think He is self-serving and demands obedience simply because He wants the attention on Him.

I thank God that He isn't this way. He desires that I embrace Him and yield to Him as my God so that I will have sufficiency in times of need and protection from those who are out to hurt me.

Devotional: Made Strong for Him

Passage: Psalm 80
Marked: Psalm 80:14-15
"Turn again, we beg you O God of Hosts, Look down from heaven and have regard for the vineyard which your right hand planted, and the branch that You have made strong FOR YOURSELF."

Romans says that our life is not for ourselves, not to ourselves. In life and death, we are God's. We have a higher purpose, we have been given every chance to spend life more meaningfully.

I thank God that I need not rack my brains out and throw myself to the point of exhaustion in order to make my mark in this world. In knowing and pursuing God's desires for me, I will rightly experience that sense of achievement and worth of living.

Devotional: When God Tarries

07-22-Saturday Passage: Psalm 79:1-17
Marked: Psalm 79:9 "Help us for the glory of YOUR name. Save us & forgive our sins for the honor of YOUR name."
In frustration, we can think God is taking too long, no justice is served, prayers are not answered; God seems quick to discipline His children while evil around remains unpunished. At times, the child of God feels wrongly punished (or affected) for the sins & faults of others. We may pray wrong prayers, overly eager for God's punishment to fall on those who do wrong, or eager for God to just leave us alone and turn His "anger somewhere else."
A lot I don't understand, but 1 Cor. 10 says,  "ALL things must be to the glory of God." Whatever may be happening, to my liking or not, there's always an opportunity for God's honor to be displayed.

Meditation: Habitual Sins

What I need to stay on guard for are sins committed frequently in the normal course of daily living. These habitual sins have been confessed to God a multitude of times already, with declarations to God of shunning these regretful actions, promising to cease from committing them.Yet, I find myself in the same shameful situation as before. I thank God for the mercy of the cross and the abundance of His grace. I'm thankful for love and understanding from family and true friends. Today I pray that I may never reach the point of taking forgiveness and mercy for granted. I pray to value the feelings of my loved ones over my own and to value the glory of Christ over my unholy passions.

Devotional: An Example and a Warning

The lives of people older than us are examples to encourage and train us for good living, they are to be appreciated for all the goodness we experience through their lives & for good values & skills we've picked-up from them. For their failures & flaws, there's no benefit if we nitpick on that or look down on them because of that. We would do well to let their mistakes serve as lessons & warnings of what we shouldn't commit in our own life. 1 Cor. 10 shares: "Now these things happened to them (their ancestors) by way as an example and warning to us; they were written TO ADMONISH and FIT US for RIGHT ACTION."

There are many things I've learned from my parents and family I grew up with that I consider precious and vital. I pray hard for God's help so I can live in a way that my children would grow up learning precious and vital things from my life as well.

Food: Boiled Egg Tips

Eating an egg simply boiled is the easiest way to eat cooked eggs, and it gives the lowest calorie count as well. The calorie count yields the same number as it does if you eat the egg raw., about 78 calories for 1 large egg. Livestrong recommends small ones, which gives 54 calories. Jumbo eggs give as much as 90 kcal.

For a "just right" boiled egg, I've always found this to work. Bring water to a boil, put in the egg and keep it to a steady, mid boil for 7 minutes. I often use eggs straight from the fridge. And this leads to egg-shell cracking. If you don't want cracked shells, use room temperature eggs, but lessen the boil by at least a minute.

For a soft-yolk boil, BBC recommends bringing water to a boil and dipping in a room-temperature egg for 3 to no more than 4 minutes long.

For a full hard-boiled egg, 10 minutes boil time is recommended.

For easy peeling, these are recommended tips:

Tap eggs before putting them into the boiling water. This frees the insides o…

Devotional: The Backslidden Heart

Passage: Psalm 78
Marked: Psalm 78:22
"They did not have faith in God, and did not trust his ability to deliver them. they continued to sin, and did not trust him to do amazing things."
Verses 17-19 describes what goes on in the life of a backslidden Christian.
He gets used to a life of sin, abusing God's patience. He rebels, refusing to do whatever is right. He challenges the will and Person of God. testing God to prove Himself by granting selfish whims. When God refuses to answer self-centered prayers, he unashamedly, bitterly testifies against the goodness and power of God.

Often, it all starts with an attitude of complaining and dissatisfaction. The discontent complainer is that way because he does not rely on God's power to deliver and to do mighty works because he does not intimately know God.

Today I pray to stay mindful of all the good God has been favoring my life with. And when life is not going the way I want it to, may I keep remembering who my God is, the …

Devotional: Tell-Tales

Passage: Psalm 78:1-10
Marked: Psalm 78:4,6,7 "We will tell the next generation about the Lord’s praiseworthy acts, about HIS strength and the amazing things HE HAS DONE.So that children yet to be born, might know about them. Then they will place their confidence IN GOD."
One of the wisest things parents can do is to be as they are, with their children. Our children must see that we do not know the answers all the time, that we can't be strong all the time, that we can't be all they need for us to be all the time. In all these limitations and failings, our children must sense that it will always be God pulling the whole family through life's changes and challenges. And whatever accomplishments I may be admired for, I must always be testifying to my children that it is all in His strength and wisdom that I amount to anything at all.
Today I pray that I may be able to raise my children placing their faith and utmost confidence in our God.

Devotional: God of the Waters

Reading: Psalm 77
When the waters [at the Red Sea and the Jordan] saw You, O God, they were afraid; the deep shuddered also, for [all] the waters SAW YOU.17 The clouds poured down water, the skies sent out a sound [of rumbling thunder]; Your arrows went forth [in forked lightning].18 The voice of Your thunder was in the whirlwind, the lightnings illumined the world; the earth trembled and shook.19 Your way [in delivering Your people] was through the sea, and Your paths through the great waters, yet Your footsteps were not traceable, but were obliterated.20 You led Your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron.- AMPC
Marked: v16 "When the waters [at the Red Sea]] saw You, O God, they were afraid; the deep shuddered also, for the waters SAW YOU. AMPC"

When Moses raised his rod, that was not what nature saw. Nature perceived God willing a miracle and in recognition and obedience, nature defied itself; nature resisted nature & forced open a pathway of salvation for G…

Health: Feeding Your Kids Intstant Mac n' Cheese Powdered Mixes? Think again!

Seattletimes.com gives a very informative news article on the latest findings of high concentrations of Phthalates in store bought Mac n' Cheese Boxes.  A new study tested 30 cheese products and has detected phthalates in all but one of the samples tested, with the highest concentrations found in the highly processed cheese powder in boxed mac-and-cheese mixes. In a report cited by Mike Belliveau, 31 samples of  powdered cheese contained in boxed mac-and-cheese products were tested and 30 of them came out to contain the highest concentration of phthalates. Nine of the powdered cheese were made by Kraft.

The chemical was already banned from children't teething products and rubber duckie toys years ago but is yet to be banned in foods. Though it may not directly be used in the food preparation itself, the chemical is able to seep into the finished product through packaging and manufacturing equipments used.

The chemical is most specially harmful to the pregnant and the young. I…

HBO TV Series: A Game of Thrones

Game of Thrones, adapted from the novel series "A Song of Ice and Fire" from master novelist, George R.R. Martin, (GRRM) is a multi-awarded 2011-current TV series picked up by HBO, set to run its 7th Season this July 16. Check out the official Season Seven trailer here:

I've been hearing talks about top-rated GOT for a long time now and with all the talk on an abundance of sex and nudity in the series, I never really took interest in anything Game of Thrones, and refused to bother myself with even a glimpse into the basic plot for light insight into what makes the world of GOT so captivating.
Over the course of the past two months though, I was able to glimpse bits of some scenes and I learned of the complexity and variety Game of Throne presents its viewership. There was war and there was soap opera drama. There was mystery, there was romance. There were mythical creatures creatively presented, and there were direwolves that got me missing our Alaskan Malamute back home…

Devotional; True Worship

But a time is coming—and now is here—when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father SEEKS such people to be his worshipers. God is spirit, and the people who worship him MUST worship in spirit and truth. John 4:23,24

"Worship is a PERSONAL thing before it goes public. it is an INDIVIDUAL thing before it is part of a community. It is a DISCIPLINED thing before it is natural." Ravi Z

How do I really become and remain a true worshipper of my God, worshipping in spirit and truth? Though I may never fully grasp and practice what the phrase desires of me, I realize that to worship God in that way means it is not seasonal and it is never out of impulse. It does not rely on mood or emotion, it does not require compulsion, it does not need to be fueled by obligation or guilt. It is an anticipation and there is a sense of privilege. It is fueled by gratitude and there is a sense of knowing and experiencing the Person of this God I worship.

Devotional: Change into the image of Christ

And all of us, as with unveiled face, [because we] continued to behold [in the Word of God] as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are constantly being transfigured into His very own image in ever increasing splendor and from one degree of glory to another; [for this comes] from the Lord [Who is] the Spirit. 2 Corinthians 3:18 AMPC

“Don`t care about what image others around you may have and don`t look to the world to tell you what yours should be like. You have an image of what God wants you to be, what He has created you to be.” J.F.

I am reminded that a Christian is not to simply fit in. He is not to be an unthinking follower of worldly trends. He is not to look to the world to solely tell him what to value and how to value things in this life. All the positive and right things we ought to learn, the Bible provides, and more. And Christ is who we should aim to be like (and please) in this life.

Devotional: Death...and Life

If Christ has not been raised, then your faith is empty...useless. For if only in this life we have hope in Christ, we should be pitied more than anyone. But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For just as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive. “The first man, Adam, became a living person”; the last Adam became a life-giving spirit.

By rising from the dead, Christ confirms within our hears that while surrounded by death and the limitations of time, there is a reality that stretches beyond the now to the very presence of God. Ravi Z.

God is the author of my life, He is the sustainer of my life. There will be breath as long as my purpose for earthly life is still to be lived. It brings peace to think that while death on earth brings fear and sadness, for the Christian, it is never the end. It is only a transition to something better.

Devotional: Seeing Bigger

That the Father of glory may give you the Spirit of wisdom & of revelation in the knowledge of him...your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you...and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe. Ephesians 1

“The more we mature in our thinking, the bigger God looks to us, because it is we who need to grow, not He.”- Recapture the Wonder

God is immeasurably great. Nothing is needed to make Him even greater than He already is. And no problem, no circumstance, nothing can ever diminish that greatness. Today I pray to remember that my God is always above every circumstance I will find myself in.

Devotional: The nobler gifts...Love

Earnestly desire the nobler gifts. And I will show you a still MORE EXCELLENT way... If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, and if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, and If I give away all I have, BUT HAVE NOT love, I am nothing, I gain NOTHING. 1 Cor. 12-13

"Love is the quiet confidence of belonging to someone other than oneself; a
commitment to a cause greater than oneself; a relationship that makes choices apart from the self... "Ravi Z

When I seek love by the right means and express it in the right ways, I find myself most blessed and most satisfied. Today I pray for God to help me see all the right ways I should expect to be loved and all the right ways I should express it to my husband and kids.
