Devotional: The Backslidden Heart

Passage: Psalm 78
Marked: Psalm 78:22
"They did not have faith in God, and did not trust his ability to deliver them. they continued to sin, and did not trust him to do amazing things."

Verses 17-19 describes what goes on in the life of a backslidden Christian.
He gets used to a life of sin, abusing God's patience.
He rebels, refusing to do whatever is right.
He challenges the will and Person of God. testing God to prove Himself by granting selfish whims.
When God refuses to answer self-centered prayers, he unashamedly, bitterly testifies against the goodness and power of God.

Often, it all starts with an attitude of complaining and dissatisfaction. The discontent complainer is that way because he does not rely on God's power to deliver and to do mighty works because he does not intimately know God.

Today I pray to stay mindful of all the good God has been favoring my life with. And when life is not going the way I want it to, may I keep remembering who my God is, the One who said, "I KNOW THE THOUGHTS AND PLANS I HAVE FOR YOU, plans for welfare and peace, not for evil, to give you hope and a future ..." (Jeremiah 29:11)
