Devotional: My Savior, and most importantly, My Lord

None of us lives for his own benefit, and none of us dies for himself. If we live, we live for the Lord, and if we die, we die for the Lord. So then, whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s. For Christ died and lived again for this reason, that He might be Lord of BOTH the dead and the LIVING.

---
God`s plan of salvation was not just about giving me a future escape from hell. I`ve been saved to a new way of life and purpose. Christ came to be both my Savior and Lord in this very life,at this very moment.

Today I pray for a deeper understanding and commitment to the Lordship of Christ in my life.

Devotional: Stay a Student of His Word

"continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from who you have learned them, and how from childhood you have known the Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation...
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:15

It is wrong for me NOT to put time in learning about God and His Word. The Bible is an absolute necessity for living. The passage says it is thru the Scriptures that I will be complete and enabled for doing good. This also means that if I am learning Scriptures properly, there will be completeness and there will be fruits of good work. If these are not happening, either I am not studying or I am not receiving God's Word as intended.

I pray for strength and desire to be a continual student of God's Word.

Devotional: When we want Enslavement over Freedom

Did we not say to you in Egypt, ‘Leave us alone; let us serve the Egyptians?’ For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians [as slaves] than to die in the wilderness.” Exodus 14:12

The Israelites would rather go back into slavery than go forward according to Gods plan and reaching His appointed place for them. Sad but it does happen that we choose the familiar and the normal (even the unfavorable) over God-called directional changes because in the familiar we are knowledgeable and we have control; we feel more able and more secure. Launching into the unknown and uncertain can shake our foundations and trust becomes an issue....but if we know the God who goes with us and before us there will be no difference where we find ourselves for we understand from experience that He is the same God who goes with us and before us on level or high ground, and He is that same One as we go through the valley.

Devotional: Distressed Without but at Peace Within

And the peace of God [which reassures the heart] which transcends all understanding, stands guard over your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Phil 4:7 AMP

"The peace of God will guard you in Christ, not your striving." Julia A.

---
The abiding Christian will want to live life at peace within himself, and without, with lesser conflicts, troubles, and preoccupations. Thru the ministry of the Holy Spirit, this can be so. However, there are times when no amount of trying and no efforts seem to help achieve a state of peace. In those moments, I must learn to cast all on Christ and even more fervently commune with Him and depend on Him. God is above my circumstance and in Him I will unexplainably find courage to be still and be at rest.

Christian Quotes for the Week

Quotable Quotes from Julia A-Bell of Hillsong Church:

Use your words to honor and protect.
Theres already a lot of negativity around. The world needs to see Jesus, and thats what we need to help with.
Be a woman of grace that gives people room to change.

Live well, live wisely, live humbly. And remember that humbleness is not trying to live less than what God wants you to be.
From Abraham Lincoln:

Character is like a tree and reputation like a shadow. The shadow is what we think of it; the tree is the real thing.
From Bevan Russell, Hillsong Noosa:

Worship is coming to God to elevate Him.
Elohim, The Creating One. God is the creator and the One who holds together all we see and don`t see.
Let Christ have Kingship over the heart.

Devotional: A Congruent Life

If you are wise and understand God’s ways, prove it by living an honorable life...But if you are bitterly jealous and there is selfish ambition in your heart, don’t cover up the truth with boasting and lying. For jealousy and selfishness are not God’s kind of wisdom.... For wherever there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there you will find disorder and evil of every kind. But the wisdom from above is...pure.... peace loving, ... full of mercy and the fruit of good deeds... it is always sincere.

"Choose to live a congruent life, where reputation (what you show yourself to be) and what you desire to be matches who you really are becoming." Julia A'bell
"We cannot allow our personality type to limit or rule us; regardless of personality, we are to exercise the fruit of the Spirit." Julia A'bell
"It is who we really are that will lead people to Jesus." Julia A'bell

Devotional: Choked Out

The worries and cares of the world [the distractions of this age with its worldly pleasures], and the deceitfulness [false security or glamour] of wealth [or fame], and the passionate desires for all the other things creep in and choke out the word, and it becomes unfruitful. Mark 4:19

The Word of God is alive and powerful as the book of Hebrews says. It is life. It breathes life. But this verse tells me that if I'm not watchful, the power of the Word can be choked and become unable to bear fruit in my life. This means that anytime the reading of Scriptures makes no difference or change, the problem lies within me.

The verse points out things that will choke out the Word. These are:
1. cares of this world which are not necessities but rather, worthless distractions
2. getting hooked on the security of wealth or influence and position among peers,
3. desires for "all the other things" which may be a covetous spirit or a discontent over things we don't have or are not hea…

Food: Milk, Milk, Milk!

Looking at grocery shelves, Milk comes in a number of varieties.

Fresh vs. Long-life

Fresh Milk is found in the cold section. Shelf life is definitely shorter.Long-Life Milk is found in another section. Unopened, shelf life is definitely longer ( 6 months or more),  just check expiry dates. Once opened, consume within the week.

Pasteurized vs Unpasteurized (Raw or Bath Milk)
Louis Pasteur invented this process of heating milk (to a minimum of 15 degrees) to destroy harmful microbes. This also kills most bacteria which cause spoilage, thereby prolonging shelf life.

Heating can be High-temperature, short-time (HTST) which provides a refrigerated shelf life of 2 -3 weeks.
Heating can also be Ultra-heat treatment (UHT) which provides a refrigerated shelf-life of
2-3 months and can be stored unrefrigerated up to 9 months.

A number of health advocates consume Unpasteurized Milk or Raw Milk. It's very believable that some beneficial enzymes and nutrients are destroyed when milk is heated. T…

Devotional: Blinded

11 The entire vision [of all these things] will be to you like the words of a scroll that is sealed, which they give to one who can read, asking him to read but he cannot , for it is sealed.” Then they will give it to one who cannot read, asking him to read but he cannot because he is unable.

13 Then the Lord said,
"Because this nation approaches [Me only] with their words
And honors Me [only] with their lip service,
But they remove their hearts far from Me,
And their reverence for Me is a tradition that is learned by rote [without any regard for its meaning]," Isaiah 29:11-13

---
It is a sad thing to see God and yet not see Him. There is a danger for me to become blinded to a deeper and fruitful understanding and perception of God and His ways. And if I don't watch it, I can become attached to the mechanics, to the specifics yet become disconnected from the relationship.

"Religion and its specifics can easily lose contact with what salvation is all about.". It is ne…

Devotional: Ever Near

The God who made the world and everything in it, being Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in temples made by man,[25 nor is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all mankind life and breath and everything. 26 And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place,
27 THAT THEY SHOULD SEEK GOD, AND PERHAPS FEEL THEIR WAY TOWARD HIM AND FIND HIM. YET HE IS ACTUALLY NOT FAR FROM EACH ONE OF US. 28 for “‘In him we live and move and have our being;”Acts 17

No costly payment nor hard effort is required for one to draw close to God. Come assuming and expecting nothing; come bare and stripped down, wanting nothing except to know and be known of Him. Come as such and you`ll receive the closeness you desire.

Christian Quotes for the Week

As with any other Bible teachers and preachers, error is expected. No one handles and talks of the Word of God perfectly. It is the prudent Christian's duty to appreciate and glean the right things. There are good things to learn and be reminded of in listening to Ptr. Brian Houston of Hillsong Church. Here are some thoughts:

Quotable Quotes: from Ptr. Brian Houston, Hillsong Church

Never underestimate the power of the choices you make.Don't believe for your children less than their God given potential. Our choices affect those we love.Knowledge is imparted...impart it to your children.Every day matters.Understanding is gained, so get understanding.Stay inquisitive.Breathe in life; choose it, maximize it.We have been given life and we have been given new life.Generosity is modeled. Let your children grow with generosity and it will open doors for them.Teach your children the fundamentals in living the supernatural life.

Devotional: the Presence

Moses said to Him, “If Your presence does not go with us, do not lead us up from here. For how then can it be known that we have found favor in Your sight? Is it not by Your going with us, so that we are distinguished from all the [other] people on the face of the earth?

And the Lord said, “My presence shall go with you, and I will give you rest.” Exod 33

---
there`s just one thing that separates the people of God from the rest in the world and that one thing makes all the difference- it is the presence of God WITHIN them.

today i pray as Moses asked,“let me know Your ways so that I may know You [ more deeply and intimately acquainted with You, recognizing and understanding Your ways more clearly] and that I may find grace and favor in Your sight.”

Devotional: Our Enabler

"But when the Helper (Counselor, Strengthener, Standby) comes, ...the Spirit of Truth who comes from the Father, He will testify and bear witness about Me. Matt 15:26

when they bring you before the synagogues and the authorities, do not worry about how you should make your defense or what you should say, for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that moment what you must say.” Matt 22:11

You will be brought before kings and governors because of my name. This will be a time for you to serve as witnesses... I will give you the words along with the wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to withstand or contradict". Luke 21:13-15

God the Holy Spirit is in me teaching and proving God and His truths. As I grow in the Word, the Holy Spirit enables me to retain and appropriate all I learn into daily life. Even in communication, it is thru the guidance of the Holy Spirit that I am able to pass on Scripture Truths in order to cause understanding and even correct error. Today, I p…

Devotional: God's Enduring Word

"The grass withers, And the flower falls off, But the word of the Lord endures forever.”
- And this is the word which was preached to you. 1 Peter 1:25

"Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away."-Jesus

God's Word stands and forever it remains. Throughout history the devil has been trying to use men to suppress, hinder, & muddy the propagation of God's Word and Truths.Religious orders have strangled & burned Christians like Tyndale for their works on translation. Reading the Bible was banned in the 1400's. In the 1500's, Bibles & its owners were hunted, burned at the stake during the dark ages. Yet we see the reach & power of Scriptures have never been blocked nor cut off. It remains fresh, alive, relevant to this very day.

The Holy Bible is very valuable. God has preserved the written Word for it holds the key to the source & issues of life. Today, I am grateful that I have freedom to hold the Scriptures in my han…

Health: Menstrual Cramps

A lot of women women experience pain with menstrual periods which may start in one's teenage years. For normal menstrual cramps, it is called Primary Dysmenorrhea. Menstrual pain that is associated of an underlying or further medical condition (like Endometriosis for example) is called Secondary Dysmenorrhea.

In primary dysmenorrhea, some pain may already be felt one to three days before menstrual period and may continue within the first 2 to 3 days of blood flow. Women notice that it lessens with years, especially after giving birth or with being sexually active.

Pain is felt due to uterine contractions which inhibit blood flow to the uterus lining.  Prostaglandins (inflammatory hormone-like substances) abound which cause uterine contractions.During menstruation, leukotriene (inflammatory molecules) levels are also elevated which contribute to menstrual pains.

There are some ways you can relieve or lessen menstrual cramps:

Make sexual Intercourse more frequent especially a few day…

Devotional: Choose life, Choose God

"Today I have given you the choices...choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants, by loving the Lord your God, by obeying His voice, and by holding closely to Him; for He is your life [your abundant life, your fulfillment] and the length of your days, that you may live in the land which the Lord swore to give to your fathers" Deuteronomy 30

The chapter says to choose life and God is not difficult for me nor is it remote (v11) . "For the thing is very near you—it is in your mouth & in your mind so that you can do it." (v14). When the heart is committed to love God & let Him be center, there is enablement & there is understanding. Verse 17 warns that turning aside & being lured away to worship another will only lead to destruction because true life is only experienced in walking with God.

To love God is actually easy; it is very easy to like & love someone who is likable & lovable. However, it is also difficult at the same…

Health and Wellness: Lavender Oil

I've always been attracted to the scent of lavender. I tend to look for it in cleaners, especially fabric softeners.  I also look for it in scents: perfume and burning oil incense. There is much to like and love about lavender oil. It gives a number of benefits:

Insect Repellent properties. It lessens insect bites.Anti-inflammatory properties. It helps lessen irritation and makes the bites subside faster.Relaxation and Sleep Inducement. It calms the mind and the body. It releases bodily tension. Pour some oil into the burner to relieve yourself of headaches, various pains, and insomnia.Blood circulation stimulus. It stimulates circulation in the blood. It is a good massage oil option.Antiseptic and Antifungal properties. It cleans wounds and it helps clear the skin from fungal infection. Devotional: Undiminished God

"The righteous will never be shaken...He is not afraid of bad news; his heart is firm, trusting in the LORD. His heart is established (to lean on, to take hold of) ; he will not be afraid." Psalm 112

To fear is to be human. I can't seem to recall a time I had not responded in fear to bad news or worrisome circumstances. But i can recall unforgettable moments where the Spirit just comes and replaces my heavy fears with unexplainable peace and stillness, where my striving ends and His awesome works begin.

This verse challenges me as it teaches me that it IS possible to not be afraid of bad news, as long as I remember that God is the same in good news and bad, that He remains all-powerful and all-loving in EVERY circumstance and that His Godhead is never diminished when life is rough and unforgiving.

Today I am grateful that I have an all-consistent, ever present God who I call as Father.

Starch, Starch, Starch

There are a number of starches you can use for cooking:

A. Grain Starches are great thickeners. They gelatinize at higher temp. They do tend to leave a taste and a hazier look. You may add these even at the beginning of cooking.

1. Wheat Flour
2. Corn Starch

B. Root or Tube Starches quickly thicken sauces and baked products. They are clear thickeners and have almost no after taste, except for Tapioca which gives a hint of sweetness. It is recommended to add them at the end of cooking as they don't stand well under prolonged heat. For baking purposes, these starches are more recommended, being neutral in taste.

1. Arrowroot Starch (extracted from rootstocks of tropical plants) normally Maranta arundinacea, Other kinds are Florida arrowroot (Zamia integrifolia), Japanese arrowroot (Pueraria lobata) called kuzu
2. Tapioca Starch (extracted from cassava root)
3. Potato Starch

Easy Recipe: Ground Beef and Potato

You need:
1 kg of minced beef, at least 3 stars
8 potatoes cubed
1 medium green bell pepper chopped
1 regular onion chopped
4 cloves of garlic or more, chopped
1 beef stock cube
For seasoning: smoked paprika, garlic salt, black pepper, premium soy sauce

Steps:
Coat minced beef in soy sauce, black pepper, garlic salt. Set aside.Heat your pan with some oil.Mix bell pepper, onion, garlic together for about a minute.Mix in potatoes for about 2 minutes.Mix in the minced beef.Frequently mix and turn until beef and potatoes get cooked.Put in beef stock cube, (not dissolved in water). Press between fingers to crumble in small grains and mix into the dish.Season as desired. Serve with chili garlic for an awesome Asian meal, over rice :)

Devotional: Trustworthy

"The works of His hands are faithful and just; all His commandments are trustworthy. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. All who practice it have a good understanding." Psalm 111
Though I may not yet see the end results, from past experiences I know God`s ways have always been fair and wise. In trying to keep the fear of God in my life, I see all the rightness in keeping His commandments. He always desires to keep me on the right path and in keeping them, I can indeed stay the right and fruitful path.

Oil, Oil, Oil!

There's much to say about oil in food. FIrst, you have unrefined and refined; refined has undergone chemical processing and some discourage its use for health reasons. You also have animal oil and plant oil; and some discourage one, others the other; both for health reasons. Here is a further breakdown:

ANIMAL OILS
Lard- is pig fat. It has a smoke point of 370°F. It can be rendered or unrendered with unrendered being unmelted and unfiltered pig oil.Ghee- is like clarified butter but simmered. The taste is nutty and it is aromatic. It is commonly used in Iranian and Indian dish preparations. It has a smoke point of 475°F. It is used for Ayurvedic purposes.Tallow- is rendered beef fat. Smoke point is 400°F.  Margarine- is originally animal fat  but now more commonly vegetable oil based. Check labels for exact disclosure. It is imitation butter. PLANT OILS (Vegetable Oils) Rice Bran Oil- can be used for cooking needs, including deep frying; it has a smoking point of 490°F. Rice bran o…

Easy Recipe: Fried Chicken and Mixed Fried Rice

So, we have uncooked leftover chicken drumsticks and rice from the dinner before. Here's what anyone can do with that:

What you need:
For marinading-
Chicken Pieces for frying
2 Eggs
1/2 c milk

Turn and mix rice once in a while.Serve.

Butter, Butter, Butter!

In search for the butter with the closest taste to my husband's favorite, Queensland Pure Creamery Butter, I got to pay a lot of attention to all the kinds of butter found on the shelves.

Pure Butter - is 100% milk. You have salted and unsalted variants. Unsalted type is otherwise called as Sweet Butter (not the same as Sweet CREAM butter).  Sweet Cream Butter- is made from milk or cream that hasn't been fermented; it is made from pasteurized cream and hence sweeter as compared to those made from soured cream. Tillamook has this. Whipped Butter- is ideally pure butter, but most labels list "min. 80% milk fat"; often more fluffy and lighter textured, great for toast and last add-ons on dish preparations. Cultured Butter- has more fat and is excellent for use in baking flaky pastries like croissants; is tangy to taste because of fermented cream. Spreadable Butter- in variants of soft, semi-soft, super soft is a blend of milk/cream and oils like vegetable oil, olive oil, c…

Devotional: God, My Protector

"Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life. You stretch out your hand against the anger of my foes; with your right hand you save me." Psalm 138:7

"It will be amazing to one day learn of all the times God has protected you from all the harm that would have come if He hadn't intervened." Sarah K.

God is with me at all times, in all situations. He will restore and recover me through all troubles. Through Him I will bounce back. In misunderstandings and unwanted conflict, He will defend and shield me  under attack.

Devotional: More than Material

Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions." Luke 12:15

Jesus warns me to be on guard and to be discerning over my life, that i stay free free from covetousness (AMP: the immoderate desire for wealth, the greedy longing to have more). He reminds me that life is more than material things, that there is much more to real life than just gaining possessions.

i come to understand that the real meaning and purpose of life will never be found in what is inanimate. In many places, God's Word says human relations and spiritual worship have far greater importance.

today i pray to be more focused on people and not things.

Devotional: Divine Consulting

Proverbs 16:1-3. The plans of the heart belong to man, but the answer of the tongue is from the LORD. All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes, but the LORD weighs the spirit. Commit your work to the LORD, and your plans will be established.

In trying to stay within God's will and within His place of blessing I need to remember to be sensitive and yielded to the doors He would be opening and closing for this is one way I sense what opportunities He sees best for me to pursue or let go. I may put my very best efforts but I should be careful I don't end up forcing things to happen according to what I just desire. And in achieving, I must never employ means which do not please nor bring honor to my God.

Every effort, every plan executed in yieldedness and deference to His higher plan will always bring profitable outcomes. What is part of His plan will be established and what is not won't be a waste of time because each journey to finding God's will always brings mat…

Easy Recipe: Slow Cooker Creamed Sausage and Potatoes

This is one easy meal to prepare and very economical too. This is a budget friendly meal that yields 8 servings. I halved it and set aside the other half for next day's dinner. I wish I was able to take a photo of the finished dish. I'll put it in the next time I make this again.

Devotional: Blessed by Blessing

”He had no desire to bless anyone, so he has experienced no blessings. ”Psalm 108:17.   "They curse, but You will bless." vs 28

Although the chapter talks about the ways of an evil man, here i am reminded that although personal pursuits if God-honoring will breed a blessed life, i experience a different kind of blessedness when my efforts and spendings benefit others. In sharing my life and blessings with others i am blessed as well and am rewarded with supernatural joy, satisfaction,  and enablement to channel God's blessings to others once more.

It is amazing for a christian to feel no loss when he gives something away and this feeling is something only God can bring out of us. I praise God, the greatest giver for choosing me to be a recipient of His blessings. And i thank Him for teaching and letting me experience what a blessed life is all about.
