When Did Church Become About Us?

When did  church and worship become centered around man? We sit during 'Sunday' (whatever day you have it) church and it’s become a program. Lots of noise and distraction. So many things happening. So many people talking. By the time we get to the message, the congregation is already tired from information overload and overstimulation. The message is the last one in, and it’s a sad thing that leaders feel the need to decorate Sunday worship with entertainment. Don’t get me wrong. Announcements. Fun segments. Entertainment. Connecting points. These are all important for fellowship. Just too many. And one after another. Shouldn't we finish our main business first? And that is to hear from God. And then after, we can hear from each other. Why has God’s voice become the last item? In a day and age when attention spans have shrunk so much, this is not a good thing. The Real Way to “Liven Up” Church Leaders think of ways to liven up the church and come up with a lot of diversi...

Stop Guessing, Let God Teach You - Psalm 27:11

Let God Teach You How to Do Life As we begin to comprehend and trust God's all-eoncompassing wisdom, foresight, and plans, we WILL sensibly desire His teaching and leadership over our lives. The human brain is capable of progressive learning. Our brains are continually learning and unlearning things everyday. In this age of widespread information and resource, our minds take in a lot of things day in and day out. We pick up new things, and, in the process, we may let go of some other things. We exchange one principle for another. We replace wrong notions with correct ones (hopefully). And so our brain is truly amazing in that we always have potential to become more knowledgeable, accurate, mature, discerning, understanding, and broad-minded with each passing moment. There is the danger of picking up the wrong things and replacing right principles with wrong ones. We see this happen all the time. People, God's People" letting go of their standards, convictions, and princi...

Struggling Christian, I Feel You

Lord, I’m not afraid of Your refining fire. It’s what I need. I’m scared. I’m ashamed. But I desire it. I’m so tired , Lord—feeling You far away, fearing I’m displeasing You every day, worried and convinced there are things unsettled, matters that need to be resolved. I bring everything to You. I bring myself. Not proud—bare and open. Your will, not mine, Lord. Burn all that hinders, deters, distracts, destroys, defiles. Consume them, Lord, if that’s what will bring me closer to You. I’m a no one, a nothing. Before You, I will reclaim who I am and be able to reach who I need to be. Father, I only ask You to be with me—to show Yourself, to accept me once more, to lend me Your fellowship and friendship. Years of living on this earth have taught me nothing, brought me nothing. I’ve only found more things that draw my heart and mind far from You. I’m tired, Lord. Exhausted. Frustrated. I need You. I have always needed You. I never lost sight of that. But it’s been difficult to have a sing...

A Meditation on Psalm 23

A Meditation on Psalm 23 Psalm 23 is one of the popular passages in the Bible. Famously known for its beginning line: "The Lord is my Shepherd." A meditation by King David, reflecting likely during one of his shepherding days out in the field: As I Am to Others, God is to Me 1 The Lord is my shepherd;   I shall not want. Whoever you are, whatever you do in this life - your role, your responsibilities, your obligations - remember that God does for you, what you do for others. This brings security and sufficiency ; to know that whoever I am, whatever I am doing right now, God is doing the very same thing for me. If I am a parent, a teacher, a friend to others, God is all those to me as well. In knowing this, I understand that I will not lack in anything. Ultimately, God supplies all I need to supply to others. All my output comes from the Source. This also brings relief and confidenc e. Everything others depend on me for, I can depend on God for in my own life. Everything I...
